Tech Health Check

A fixed-price, half-day review of everything technology touches in your business — website, email, backup, job software, cyber exposure — ending in a written plan you own outright. No retainer, no meeting that turns into an ongoing relationship, and no obligation to buy anything from us to act on it.

Why “let’s have a chat about your technology” does not work

Most technology advice for small business is sold as an open-ended conversation, and an open-ended conversation is the highest-touch thing you can buy. It has no defined scope, no fixed price, and no natural end, which means it either goes nowhere or turns into a relationship you did not sign up for.

The Tech Health Check is the same conversation, productised: fixed scope, fixed price, one session, one document at the end. You can say yes to it the way you say yes to a service booking, not the way you say yes to hiring an adviser.

What the review covers

Most of it does not need you in the room. It runs in four parts.

Collected automatically, before we talk. Your domain and mail records, mail host, SSL and certificate expiry, website performance, Google Business Profile completeness, and whether your domain shows up in any known data breaches.

A short intake form, filled in before the session. What platforms you run, how many devices, who has access to what, where the job photos actually live, what breaks most often, and what would hurt most to lose.

Somebody looks at the working kit. This is the part most reviews skip, and it is the reason this one is worth paying for. The machines that hold your business data — what they run, whether the operating system is still getting security fixes, whether the disk is encrypted, and whether the security software is running and current rather than installed and lapsed, which are two different answers. Your backup, checked rather than taken on trust: is anything backing up that machine, when did it last actually run, and has anybody ever restored from it. Where the work really lives — the accounting file, the quotes, the job photos, and whether any of it exists in only one place. And the systems nobody lists: the label printer that only works off one PC, the pricing spreadsheet the whole quoting process leans on, the old machine in the shed running one thing nobody else understands.

The session itself. Ninety minutes on how the business actually runs, what is annoying you day to day, and what you are quietly worried about. We also walk the money with you — quote to job to invoice to paid, with the delays marked — and go through what you are actually paying for each month.

What you get at the end

A written, ranked list of findings — what is exposed, what it would cost to fix, and what actually matters for a business your size — plus a one-page plan you keep regardless of what you do next. If something on the list is genuinely not worth fixing yet, we say so; the point of scoping first is spending on what matters and confidently skipping the rest.

Two things in there that nobody else hands you. A map of the systems your business quietly depends on — the ones that are invisible until the day they stop. And a list of what you are paying for every month, with the forgotten ones flagged. Most small businesses are carrying two to four subscriptions nobody has looked at in a year.

What it costs

A fixed price, agreed before anything starts. What moves it is how much there is to go through: how many computers and phones hold business data, how many people have their own login, and how many platforms the business runs on.

Most trade businesses land on one of these:

Your setupPrice
One ute, a phone, one or two logins, the usual accounting-and-email$1,089
A few utes, a shed, someone doing the admin, three or four platforms$1,749
An office, a server, payroll, or more than one businessQuoted

Prices include GST. One-off — there is no retainer attached and nothing to cancel.

The review lists everything you pay for each month and flags the ones nobody uses. If it finds two you have forgotten at $50 a month, that is $1,200 a year, more than the $1,089 review costs.

Doing it again next year costs less. The second one is a re-check rather than a first look, so it is from $539, or $825 for the larger setup above. We set the reminder, so it happens without you having to think about it.

If you are between two of those, we will tell you which one you are closer to and why, before you commit to anything.

What we do not do

The review is diagnosis, not remediation. We do not fix, configure, purchase or migrate anything as part of it — that would turn a fixed-price product back into open-ended work, and it is also the fastest way to end up doing something you had not actually agreed to pay for. If the findings point at work worth doing, we quote that separately, and you can take the plan to anyone.

Who this suits

Any trade business that wants a straight answer on where its technology stands, without a sales conversation attached. It particularly suits a business about to make a decision — new job software, an office move, taking on the first employee — that wants the full picture before committing, and a business that has never had one done and is not sure where to start.

Common questions

Do I have to buy anything else afterwards? No. You own the findings and the plan whether you act on them yourself, take them to someone else, or come back to us for the work.

How is this different from a Cyber Posture Review? The Health Check covers everything technology touches in the business at a summary level. The Cyber Posture Review is narrower and deeper on cyber risk specifically, scored against the Essential Eight, which is what a head contractor or insurer tends to actually ask for. Most businesses do the Health Check first and the Cyber Posture Review only if the findings point that way, or if someone is asking them the question directly.

Why is the biggest one quoted rather than given a price? Past a certain size the systems in play, the number of staff with access, and whether there is a premises all start to vary too much for one number to be honest. We will tell you the price before the session, not after.

Can I do this every year? That is the idea, and the second one is cheaper — from $539, because it is a re-check rather than a first look. Most businesses get real value out of repeating it annually, and we set the reminder so it happens without you needing to remember.
